A joint meeting of The Empire Club of Canada and The Canadian Club of Toronto.
Two facts about the external environment that Canada and the United States share: the multi-nature of economic problems, and the fact that solutions require international co-operation now. A statement of the various world problems concerning energy supply, supply constraints on certain critical minerals and raw materials, hunger and widespread famine, inflation, balance-of-payments. Problems in an historical framework, with the energy problem as an illustrative example. Some responses to the problem, responses that haven't worked. Three issues related to the energy problem that the speaker feels require immediate co-operative attention. What we have to deal with, and why we have to deal with it immediately and co-operatively.
